Kitchen Design Trends in 2016

5:37 pm

Many people look at a new year as an opportunity to make changes in their lives.  One improvement that many people will make is to complete projects in the home that they have been putting off. One of the most important improvements homeowners can make is redoing their kitchen.  A kitchen remodel adds value to a home, and often adds convenience and improves quality of life for homeowners.

Kitchen trends in 2016

  • Shaker style kitchens:  Shaker kitchens have minimalist look with clean lines and an uncluttered feel. Shaker cabinets tend to be simple without as many elegant looking trims that draw the eye.  The natural wood qualities of a cabinet come through, although often these cabinets are painted a simple white.  If molding is included in the cabinet design, they are not ornate.

  • Gourmet kitchens:  As long as food television networks are popular, people will be willing to try more complicated food fare.  Gourmet kitchens can make that process easier.  Kitchens in this style, through ease in the kitchen layout, enhance the process of meal preparation.  Often, these kitchens require more space and higher-end appliances, but people who opt for this style love it. Featuring modern elements with natural earth tones, we have seen a rise in this style over the past year.

  • Transitional style kitchens:  The transitional style kitchen is a new(er) fusion that has been growing in popularity. Featuring the warmth and welcoming feelings of a traditional kitchen paired with simple lines and contemporary elements, this style offers the best of both worlds. When blended together, these two styles have created a stylish space. Lazy Susan’s and open shelving are often incorporated into this style of kitchen so that foods and ingredients can easily be found and accessed.

  • Added work or home office spaces:  One of the most common trends in new-built homes from last year was adding a desk or some other home-office space as part of a kitchen’s design.  This provides children with a great place to do homework while a parent is preparing a meal, and it provides anyone with work to do a place that is quiet most of the time after meals have been prepared.

If a new kitchen is on the to-do-list for 2016, consider one of these forward looking designs.  Even if you don’t fall in love with one particular design concept, we will help incorporate aspects to build the kitchen of your dreams.

Kitchen Colors: Top Picks

5:03 pm

Undergoing a NJ kitchen remodeling project is a very exciting process. We love taking customers’ visions and  turning them into realities. While the entire project consists of many many steps, including the gutting, design, and materials acquisition; today we wanted to focus one aspect and one aspect only – color.

When choosing colors for your kitchen, you must take the feel of your home into account. The general theme of the kitchen should match that of the home. Let’s take a look at a few different colors and their properties below. This will help you get a better idea of which colors you may chose when it comes time for a remodeling.

White: White is one of the most prominent and classy selections when it comes to kitchen color. The white kitchen features a pristine and classy feel. Pairing white walls with white appliances maximizes effect.

Gray: Gray can be seen as one of the most neutral colors. In the kitchen, gray is the best choice when you are dealing with many dark colored appliances and perhaps a dark backsplash. A lighter gray is also a good choice when you are dealing with a minuscule amount of natural light.

Red: We have seen an increase in the amount of red used within the kitchen in recent years. Using red along with stainless appliances can really spice up the room.

Blue: Shades of blue, while not a very common kitchen choice, can be brought to life in the right conditions. For example, if your kitchen features solely northern exposure, it can compliment the cool feel from the indirect light a great deal.

While incorporating exciting colors in the kitchen is a great way to spice things up, keeping the kitchen neutral is more often than not a safe and smart choice, especially when torn between multiple options. Get in touch today to start planning your perfect kitchen! 973-636-0100

When remodeling your kitchen, it’s best to make a list and decide how your space will be used. Are you an avid cook or baker? Do you have a high volume of traffic, or is your kitchen used for a nice aesthetic? You can have a stylish kitchen while incorporating a countertop that includes durability and maintenance. Assessing your environment and its role is key.

Black granite and quartz are very popular, but functionality should take precedence over looks. Natural stone countertops such as soapstone, limestone and marble are soft materials and very high maintenance. Wood and laminate are good options, but are easily scratched. Heat can also scorch laminate very quickly.

For the avid cook or baker, engineered stone is a great option and comes in a variety of colors. These countertops are very durable and easy to maintain.

Concrete is a popular choice and comes in a variety of finishes like ground, pressed and trowel. Pigmented colors can be used to achieve the look you desire. Although a viable option, concrete can be very high maintenance. Changes in temperature may cause it to warp and wet spots left on the countertop can promote discoloration. These should be waxed every couple of months and sealed up to four times a year.

These are all great alternatives for finding a counter-top that will work for you. Trade Mark Design and Build can help you find the best option for you. Contact us today to take advantage of our free initial consultation.

Kitchen Designs to Look Out for in the New Year

2:52 pm

If a kitchen remodel is on your wish list for the new year, you might be interested in the trending popularity of glamorous materials, jewel tones and lighter cabinet colors. Elle Decor, the harbinger of style and good taste for the home, has just released popular decor choices for 2014, and they include a dose of glamour for the kitchen.

The kitchen is often the heart of the home so it is important  to take time when choosing the decor for it. The style gurus predict more color, more drama, and a dose of polished metal accents and unusual lighting for the well-appointed kitchen in the coming year. Upstaging granite as the countertop material of choice may well be natural-looking manmades such as quartzite and composite materials that simulate malachite or agate. Other designers predict a continuing interest in recycled glass and eco-friendly surfaces for backsplashes.

Metals, including a return to polished brass as well as hammered and antiqued finishes, are expected to adorn backsplashes and utility surfaces and appear prominently in lighting fixtures.

Painted finishes may well be more popular for kitchen cabinets, in a variety of deep-toned jewel colors, but lighter “honey-toned” woods will gain new acceptance, according to style gurus. Natural flooring, including wood, will remain popular, but colors are lighter and more natural.

Function is still vital, however, so if you are considering a remodel for your New Jersey home in the new year, your best resource will be a professional, experienced firm like Trade Mark Design & Build to assist with all phases of the project.
